Co Occurring Support Worker

The role of Co-Occurring Support Worker will work in partnership with SWAMS and Palmerston Community Alcohol and Other Drug Service in providing a high level of support to clients experiencing alcohol and other drug issues and mental illness. The position of support worker will be the initial point of contact with the community in which a key priority will be to support individuals, family, and community to navigate AOD and mental health services. The role will also link in with other areas of service delivery which may include community activities and health promotion initiatives. A key facet of the position is to act as a conduit between community and support services.

Specific requirements of this position include but are not limited to;

Essential Criteria

  • The ideal candidate will have experience in working within Aboriginal community and are familiar with the historical factors that contribute to AOD use by Aboriginal people.
  • Knowledge and understanding of cultural safety are essential in working alongside Aboriginal people.
  • Developing reciprocal referral pathways for service consumers and helping them to navigate recovery pathways is an important aspect to providing quality care.
  • The ideal candidate will have the skills and drive to coordinate and or participate in community activities and events that support social and emotional wellbeing.
  • Current Working with Children Check, or the ability to obtain.
  • Current WA Driver’s Licence.

Desirable Criteria

  • Must reside in Katanning or nearby towns and areas e.g. Tambellup, Gnowangerup, Woodanilling

All candidates must have a full COVID-19 vaccination certificate, current WA Driver’s Licence and will be required to undertake a National Police Check prior to beginning employment.

The preferred candidate will be required to provide a clear drug and alcohol screen prior to offer of employment.
