Tafe Queensland is the training contractor for the Pacific Maritime Training Services program (PMTS) on behalf of the Australian Department of Defence. The PMTS program equips crew from 12 Pacific Islands and Timor Leste with the knowledge, skills, and aptitude necessary to safely crew, manage and maintain a Guardian Class Patrol Boat. Your Opportunity

As a member of the Pacific Maritime Training Services team, you will provide a proactive and effective communications function which includes planning, coordinating and implementing promotional opportunities, events and stakeholder engagement activities that enhance the image of TAFE Queensland and the Pacific Maritime Training Services program.

This position reports to the Pacific Maritime Training Services Contract Manager.

This is a Temporary, Full-Time opportunity to 30 June 2023 unless otherwise determined.

The position will be based primarily at Cairns campus, however you may be required to perform work at other TAFE Queensland campuses.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the development of communication and engagement strategies aligned to the Pacific Maritime Training Services contract and in accordance with TAFE Queensland brand guidelines.
  • Effectively plan and coordinate a range of communication and engagement activities to promote the Pacific Maritime Training Services program across internal and external stakeholder groups
  • Coordinate the organisation of events such as Pacific Maritime Training Services graduation ceremonies.
  • Provide support to the Pacific Maritime Training Services team in relation to promoting “good news” stories to internal and external stakeholders through social media channels and web content.
  • Activate all Pacific Maritime Training Services social media posts and web content, and monitor these communication channels in accordance with TAFE Queensland guidelines.
  • Take photographs and film, and edit material for public relations activities, including social media.
  • Ensure that the Pacific Maritime Training Services image gallery is current and relevant, and proper consent processes have been adhered to.
  • Liaise with members of TAFE Queensland North Marketing team on media activities and opportunities.
  • Ensure day to day activities align with Pacific Maritime Training Services business operations, plans and procedures.
  • Provide support and administrative assistance as directed by the Pacific Maritime Training Services Contract Manager
  • Contribute to improvement in business processes and practices.
  • Actively engage with industry, stakeholders and the community.

How you will be assessed

The ideal applicant will be someone who has the following key capabilities:


  • Demonstrated skills in social media, word processing, desktop publishing computer applications, photography and videography.
  • Proven ability to innovatively conceptualise, plan and coordinate promotional activities and events for both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, prioritise and manage multiple activities concurrently including coordination of stakeholder engagement activities.
  • Highly developed written and interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively liaise with key stakeholders.
  • Displays the initiative, attitude and ability to thrive within a dynamic, challenging and changing environment

Highly Desirable Requirements

  • Higher academic achievement in Communications, Public Relations, Event management or related field preferred.
