About the role

Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will work closely with all members of the Adelaide Remand Centre team to ensure the ongoing safety and security of inmates, staff and visitors. You will carry out operational-related activities including supervising the behaviour and activities of inmates while ensuring compliance with relevant policies and procedures. You will be responsible for the rehabilitation, reintegration and provision of services to inmates. You will actively participate in supporting inmates throughout their sentence whilst monitoring and maintaining the security of the Centre. You will maintain high quality documentation in relation to case files, conduct case assessments, prepare comprehensive reports and contribute to providing a safe and healthy working environment.

About you

You are compassionate, motivated and have a strong desire to work with inmates to make their first impact with the system as constructive and secure. A natural influencer, you are comfortable negotiating situations which at times may be challenging and are passionate about delivering to the highest standards in a correctional environment.

To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate: the highest levels of personal integrity and ethical behaviour a natural ability to remain calm under pressure a very sound level of physical fitness an understanding of the needs of people from different ethnic, cultural and lifestyle backgrounds

Possess verbal and written communication skills which are clear and effective

Have a natural ability to influence and negotiate in situations which may be challenging at times as well as demonstrate resilience

Demonstrate flexibility in relation to your availability to work a variety of hours as required by the centre

Maintain a strong desire for learning and your own development

Be willing to take the extra step to deliver

This is a position of trust and responsibility and to support this we will conduct a thorough probity assessment, which includes a national police check as an essential selection component for this role.

Recruitment Process

As this is a large recruitment strategy, applications will be assessed and progressed through several stages. The process will take a number of weeks, as indicated below:

Stage 1: Phone/Video interview screenings

Stage 2: If successful at interview, applicants will be added to a talent pool to be invited to attend an Assessment Centre, held in Adelaide. At the Assessment Centre you will complete

Functional Assessment

Written group Activities

Face to Face interview

Stage 3: If Successful at the Assessment Centre you will be required to complete the following:

Pre-Employment Medical: this includes a full musculoskeletal assessment including a drug & alcohol test

National Police Clearance

DHS Clearance

Online Language, Literacy & Numeracy Assessment – you will be sent a link to complete an online assessment, please note this will not be a timed assessment.

Psychometric Assessment – you will be sent a link to complete an online assessment, please note this will not be timed

Stage 4: Management to review the most suitable applicants.

Stage 5: Verbal Offers to successful candidates will commence in August.
