ABOUT THE APS NET ZERO UNIT
The APS Net Zero Unit project team will be based in Canberra and Perth (however remote positions may also be considered), as part of the Property and Construction Division in the Department of Finance. The Unit has been newly established and will work across the Department and with other government agencies more broadly to deliver on the Government’s commitment.
The APS Net Zero Unit has been tasked by Government to develop policy and reporting requirements to enable the Australian Public Service to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions to net zero by 2030, and to transparently report on its emissions. The APS Net Zero Unit also supports building capability across the APS to set a standard of best-practice net zero government operations.

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
You will be part of a team delivering the Government’s target for the Australian Public Service to reach net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 – part of the Government’s broader 2050 climate targets.
This project is led by Department of Finance, working closely with the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water, to drive greenhouse gas emissions reductions across all aspects of government operations.
The first phase of this project is focused on developing the policy, data and reporting frameworks to support this work, including engaging widely across Government and the private sector, and contracting external expertise as necessary.
The opportunity will offer high profile, cross agency exposure, on industry lead climate policy. Through this role you will also develop comprehensive skills in complex policy design, stakeholder engagement, Cabinet processes and whole of government frameworks (such as data, reporting, governance and government operations).
You will work with staff from all agencies in building APS capability to support net zero outcomes, including identifying and implementing greenhouse gas emissions reductions opportunities in their agencies and contributing to whole of government reporting obligations.

ELIGIBILITY ADVICE & CANDIDATE NOTES
Under section 22(8) of the Public Service Act 1999, employees must be Australian citizens to be employed in the Australian Public Service (APS) unless the Agency Head has agreed otherwise, in writing.
Successful applicants will be required to undergo the process to obtain and maintain, or continue to hold the required security clearance level for the role as indicated in the downloadable job pack. All Finance staff are required to have a minimum baseline security clearance prior to commencement.
These roles are being advertised as both ongoing and non-ongoing. Roles may be offered as either ongoing or non-ongoing subject to business needs and/or candidate preference. Where a non-ongoing position is offered, the role will be filled as a specified term vacancy for an initial period of up to 18 months. Specified term vacancies may be offer for a maximum of 18 months initially, and be extended up to a maximum period of three years.
