What does the role involve?
Reporting to the General Manager – Government, Industry and Regulatory Affairs, the Head of Government Affairs is responsible for leading the proactive and reactive federal and state government engagement in support of Australia Post’s strategic growth initiatives, including a focus on internal and external advisory and advocacy. A key priority is supporting the development and execution of the government engagement strategy that delivers the organisation’s strategy, that also protects and enhances Australia Post’s reputation, and fosters its social licence to operate. The Head of Government Affairs will be managing a hardworking and talented team that proactively establishes mutually beneficial relationships with key stakeholders. This role will also coordinate the internal engagements that Australia Post has with various governments.
You will also be working closely with the team, and other subject matter experts across Australia Post, on the following areas required to support Federal, State & Territory Government stakeholder engagement:
lead engagement with MPs, Senators, and Advisors; Government Departments and agencies; and state and territory political stakeholders; manage the preparation of the business and key individuals for appearances before Senate Estimates and other Parliamentary Inquiries;
Coordinate the business’s engagement with Shareholder Ministerial stakeholders (including their offices and other stakeholders) with issues as raised, and with proactive engagement in support of Australia Post’s objectives; and lead the constituent correspondence team, managing constituent inquiries and follow-up matters as appropriate.
Policy, Regulatory, and Industry
Work closely with the Head of Industry, Policy, and Regulatory Affairs to manage engagement with key Federal, State & Territory regulatory bodies across a range of enterprises and government agencies to support our capability offering and enable business opportunities for Australia Post

What are we looking for?
8+ years in Government Relations / Corporate Affairs / Industry engagement / regulatory or Policy adviser / or Ministerial adviser role within a commercial setting / political office / industry association / think tank
Proven ability to work in complex team environments or autonomously
Knowledge and understanding of the cycles and process of government decision-making across federal, state, and local levels
Experience in working with multiple complex stakeholders, and in a tightly regulated and politically sensitive environment
