Underground Surveillance Officer – Snowy 2.0

Snowy 2.0 is Australia’s largest committed renewable energy project. This nation-building project will provide on-demand energy and large-scale storage for many generations to come.

An exciting opportunity exists for experienced Underground Surveillance Officers to join the Snowy 2.0 team onsite at Lobs Hole and Tantangara on a DIDO (drive-in, drive out) basis; a FIFO (fly-in, fly-out) option may be available for suitable candidates. This role will ensure underground development works being undertaken by contractors meet contractual requirements and construction works are conducted in a way that meets Snowy Hydro’s project objectives.

Reporting to the Geotechnical Manager – Lobs Hole and/or the Senior Project Engineer – Tantangara, you will be responsible for:

  • Ensuring the Employer’s Requirements are being met at all times, and the contractor is complying with the Employer’s Design and Construction Requirements

  • Maintaining communication with your direct manager on the status of issues observed and those requiring mitigation in the field

  • Actively working with all site parties to achieve the highest standard of permanent and temporary works, and to minimise future legacy issues associated with quality and safety and functionality of these works

  • Supporting onsite Quality Management of excavation  and construction work on behalf of the Snowy 2.0 Owner’s Team  

  • Coordinating with and assisting Safety and Environmental Assurance Officers to ensure the project is complying strictly with the day-to-day deliverables

  • Performing daily inspections of all active work fronts, including plant, labour and equipment records

  • Preparing, reviewing and providing commentary on relevant reports/documentation 

  • Maintaining the highest level of health and safety performance and acting in accordance with SHL Health and Safety policies

In addition to the above, our ideal applicant will be able to demonstrate;

  • Relevant qualifications (degree, trade qualifications desirable) with strong background in underground construction trade/supervision combined with relevant training and experience 

  • Demonstrated success and 8-15 years’ experience in similar roles in the infrastructure construction or related industries

  • Strong communication/influencing and negotiation skills

  • Proven ability to influence, collaborate and negotiate with internal and contractor personnel

  • Proactive and timely decision-making, problem identification and resolution

  • The ability to work responsibly and effectively both at site and remote from site
