Position Purpose

The key purpose of this role is to provide a high quality hygiene service and assist with the

care and safe handling of animals at the farms managed by Murdoch University.

Animal Welfare


Key Responsibilities/Duties

1. Comply with University policies, procedures and protocols. Comply industry related

Acts and Regulations.

2. Assist with the cleaning and daily maintenance of the farm areas including pens, cages,

runs, and other areas as directed.

3. Assist with the feeding, watering, bathing and general welfare of animals within the

farm area, as directed.

4. Assist with the exercising and movement of animals within/outside the farm area.

5. Assist with movement of animals for teaching and research purposes.

6. Assist in farms maintenance reuqirements

7. Maintain up to date knowledge of current safety requirements across the farm;

8. Maintain appropriate records as requested;

9. Assist in stock takes as required.

10. Assist in all areas across the farm and perform other duties as requested and required.

Selection Criteria


Criteria should address:

1. Animal handling experience and care.

2. Ability to maintain accurate records for relevant areas.

3. Organisational, time and workload management skills, including the ability to prioritise

workload to meet deadlines.

Work Requirements

1. The ability to work between different University properties

2. The occupant of this position will be required to undertake a criminal record check in

accordance with the University’s Employee Background Checks Procedure. (please

check the Employee Background Checks Procedure if the role requires this)

3. Reside on one of the University farms

4. Occassional weekend work.

5. Ability to work outside of normal office hours when required.
