About the role

We have an exciting and rare opportunity for two dynamic and enthusiastic Youth Ambassadors to join our Youth Development Team.

The Youth Ambassador positions are specifically for young people, aged 17-24, who are interested in making a positive difference to the lives of the young people across the Yarra Ranges. Reporting to, and heavily supported by, the Youth Development Officers, these roles are pivotal in guiding the work of Council by representing the the views and issues important to young people across the Yarra Ranges region.

As a Youth Ambassador you will be providing assistance with key activities including consultations with young people, speaking/presenting at events and co-designing programs, projects and events. Youth Ambassadors may also have an opportunity to be members of steering and planning committees and offer a youth perspective across the organisation.

Our work is focused on social justice and we strongly encourage applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, people of Colour, people with disabilities, people from LGBTIQA+ communities and more.

These are casual temporary opportunities that involve working on average three hours per week for up to two years (until Sept 2024).

About the team

Our Communities directorate delivers a range of dedicated services to our community members from birth to the elderly. Consisting of Community Wellbeing, Community Safety, and Creative Communities departments, together they are responsible for the safety, wellbeing, and cultural engagement of the Yarra Ranges community.

What you’ll bring to our team

  • Anyone aged 17 – 24 years who lives, works or engages in the Yarra Ranges
  • Young people from diverse backgrounds including race, gender, ability, LGBTIQA+ and more. Your different experiences are an asset.
  • Passion for advocating for young people and facilitating the voice of the young people of Yarra Ranges to be heard.
  • Willingness to support initiatives that further meet the needs and provide opportunities to the young people of the region.
  • Willingness to work collaboratively, share your skills, insights and networks.
  • Willingess to be be curious, try new things and engage in self-reflection.
  • No previous leadership or work experience is required for these positions.

Salary from $39.3 per hour (Band 3), plus superannuation.

  • Police Check – renewal required every 5 years.
  • To meet its obligations under the COVID-19 Mandatory Vaccination (Workers) Directions and the OH&S Act, Yarra Ranges. Shire Council will request vaccination information or evidence of an exemption in the pre-employment stage.

  • Working with Children Check or current VIT registration.
